Recently, a new rumor mentions 12.9-inch iPad is unlikely to see the light of the day in 2014. It’s not just the oversized iPad, but there will be no third-generation iPad Mini either. The only iPad that will get a refresh is iPad Air, which will come with Touch ID and A8 processor.
The news come from the well-known Ming-chi Kuo of KGI Securities who has a very decent record when it comes to Apple news. According to the analyst, he believes iPad shipments will decline this year because iPad Air is the only tablet that will get a refresh his year.
He thinks the chances of iPad Mini getting a refresh are very slim this year. He mentions Apple has set its priorities to finish the operating system for the highly rumored iWatch first, which will launch later this year.
Regarding the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, Apple needs a operating system that go well with the big tablet, and as a result of the iWatch being on top of the priority list, Apple is unlikely to finish it’s development on the iPad Pro this year
As far as the iPad shipments are concerned, he predicts it will fall from 34 million units in the first half of 2013 to less than 30 million in the first half of 2014.
Despite his decent track record when it comes Apple-related rumors, we suggest you take it with a grain of salt. Nothing is official until it comes directly from the Cupertino giant.
